Das SCIRT-Projekt hat einen Meilenstein erreicht: Aus alter Kleidung können nun wieder neue, vielseitige Stoffe entstehen. Um auf diesen innovativen Recyclingprozess aufmerksam zu machen, wurden wir beauftragt, ein Video zu produzieren.
Für uns war von Anfang an klar, dass dieses Projekt eine tolle Gelegenheit ist, das Material “Stoff” mit Stop-Motion-Animation zum Leben zu erwecken. Ergänzt durch eine ordentliche Prise 2D-Animation und etwas Realfilm entstand ein Mixed-Media-Video, das nicht nur erklärt, warum Mode für uns so bedeutsam ist, sondern auch aufzeigt, welche Herausforderungen die Textilindustrie und unser Umgang mit Fast Fashion mit sich bringen – und wie wir diese bewältigen können.
Stop-Motion, 2D-Animation und Realfilm zu einer harmonischen Einheit zu verbinden, war hier die große Herausforderung und erforderte präzise Planung. Jede Szene musste so gestaltet werden, dass die verschiedenen Techniken nahtlos ineinandergreifen – von der Beleuchtung bis hin zur Bewegung der Objekte. Das Video wurde außerdem so konzipiert, dass einzelne Teile separat genutzt werden können, etwa für Messen und Konferenzen, um gezielt auf verschiedene Aspekte des Projekts aufmerksam zu machen.
Besonders wichtig war uns natürlich auch, dass das Video selbst nachhaltig bleibt. Deshalb haben wir karitative Einrichtungen in der Region gebeten, uns unvermittelbare Kleidung zu spenden. Diese Textilien wurden von uns in den SCIRT-Farben gefärbt, für die verschiedenen Szenen eingesetzt und anschließend wieder dem Recyclingkreislauf zugeführt. Ein herzliches Dankeschön an alle Einrichtungen und Menschen, die uns dabei unterstützt haben!
The SCIRT project has achieved something remarkable: transforming post-consumer textiles into innovative, versatile materials. To shine a spotlight on this groundbreaking recycling process, we were tasked with creating an engaging and impactful video.
From the start, we knew this project was a perfect opportunity to bring the material “fabric” to life using stop-motion animation. Combined with dynamic 2D animation and touches of live-action footage, the result was a mixed-media video that not only highlights why fashion is so important to us but also explores the challenges of the textile industry and our relationship with fast fashion—and, most importantly, how we can tackle these issues.
Bringing together stop-motion, 2D animation, and live-action into a seamless narrative wasn’t without its challenges. It required meticulous planning and attention to detail. Every scene had to be carefully crafted so the different techniques blended smoothly, from lighting setups to the intricate movement of each object. We also structured the video so that individual sections could stand on their own, making them ideal for use at fairs or conferences to highlight specific aspects of the project.
Sustainability was at the core of this project, not just in the message but in the execution. To ensure the production itself didn’t generate unnecessary waste, we reached out to local charities for donations of unsellable clothing. These textiles were dyed in SCIRT’s signature colors, used throughout the scenes, and later returned to the recycling loop. A big thank-you to all the organizations and people who helped make this possible!
